Billycan, Linthaugh Rd must be nearly a mile long so its a long shot to find your grans house there.

Billy have you looked at these aerial photos on here.

Crookston/Pollok/Corkerhill

I know they are not as good as the other one but you can see the whole area.

Great photo schiehallion. I stayed in netherplace rd from 1960 till i got married and left in 1980. I was a fireman in pollok fire station from 75 till 2000 and remember well all the old places in our area. The ambo depot, bellermine, old library at junction of brockburn and barrhead rd,darnley hosp, shops at peat rd,cowglen hosp etc etc.Being in the Fire Service we got to see all these places warts and all.The cowglen hosp as you are probably aware had an underground cinema as it was originaly built for injured american soldiers. I often wish that i had taken a camera with me on our shouts but alas you never think at the time. I will try and dig up some old photos of the time and get them posted. Growing up in pollok was an adventure everyday and funny enough a lot of the firemen in the fire station all grew up and stayed in the area as well.

Hi Pablo

Welcome to Urban Glasgow.

Sure you must have lots of stories about fires you tended and some of the other incidents over the years. Would be good to hear about the various places you had to work. Even without the pictures it would be interesting.

Heres some photos from a drill session at pollok house. We  are lined up [pollok White Watch]with our back to the cart and facing the rear entrance to pollok house. The hard standing we are on is to enable the fire engine to sit next to the cart so that in the event of a fire we can pump water directly from the cart.At that time the nearest hydrants were at Dumbreck rd and pollokshaws rd.Once the burrell was built closer hydrants were put in.A running joke was that if the house did go up in flames we were to save the EL GRECO first before women and children as it was worth a fortune.Thats me 2nd from the left in the top photo and middle of the next one

Wow I knew you would have something interesting to say Pablo and great photos as well.

Not many people will know about the lack of hydrents within the park prior to the Burrell being built.

That big guy standing to your right looks familiar
