Can I offer a word of warning to those of you may be considering having a coffee while at the Museum of Transport. I was there today and had a post-caffeine psychedelic experience.
After my coffee I went down to see the buses. I must have been disorientated as I couldn't find them. Not unusual in a museum you may think, but these aren't specimens of small insects, these are double-decker buses.
Eventually I found the exact spot where LA1 usually stood. But instead of seeing that resplendent old Leyland Atlantean I saw a horse! Not a real horse but a stuffed horse. Now I have nothing against horses and no doubt this horse was a great mode of transport in it's day. But it certainly wasn't capable of carrying 77 people from Midland Street to Pollok in one trip.
I asked a member of staff what was going on and he came out with some ludicrous story about the buses being at Bridgeton garage for the GVVT open day. Aye, right.
Take my advice, if you're at the Museum of Transport, avoid the coffee and just have tea and a sticky bun. That way you should hopefully avoid the equine hallucinations.

Really Stuball... omg... thought I had seen them last year.... then again I thought it was 1974 last year!
Alex... The Who sang "Magic Bus" back in 1968. There used to be a video of Glasgow buses around the Pollok Centre with that as the soundtrack on YouTube but I have just had a look and failed to find it. |

Storage... Been happening for ages. Sell off mibbes would not like to comment on that idea.
But then it is getting ready to move to the grand new place.
Need to actually ask Alex a wee question about this. _________________ MY FLICKR

A couple of years ago the Council bought a few old buses and they were moved to Bridgeton as part of a deal which allowed the council to meet a growing demand for the hire of special old buses. The buses purchased were to be renovate dso that they could be used for hire and so protect those buses within the collection which it wasn't wise to use as a hire due mainly to the requirement to conserve.
Wouldn't have thought it was a bad thing for the Council to help made the regular event at Bridgeton worthwhile for people to attend by providing some of the cities collection to participate in this event.
Remember that as the opening of the new museum gets closer there will be a disruption to the current displays within the old museum. Many items will transfer to Nitshill for some renovation work prior to going back on display at the Riverside Museum. _________________ I had a dream today
