Just joined the forum after being linked to this Volume and Volume one from a thread about old Glasgow. The Springburn pictures are amazing, i've stayed in Bishopbriggs all my days and can't remeber Springburn the way it was, the Expressway and shopping centre were there long before I was born.
My uncle worked in Stobhill up until a few months ago and was recently in the basement of the clock tower where they keep the old records. He found records of his own birth, mine, my mum's, my sister's and one of his brothers' (the other one being born at home). |

Topic of conversation over in The Glasgow in the seventies section is about Springburn ...Wasn,t going to post these as I thought everyone would be fed up with Spr past/presents.. but here goes
The entrance to the Hyde park loco works on Ayr st
and today
View from the other side of the main gate
and now
View along Ayr st to Flemington st showing wall of engine sheds
Nice little housing complex nowadays
View of one of the engine sheds after closure
Same area today
Classic Springburn view from the railway bridge of Atlas and Hydepark works...remember this as a child...
Alas.. all the industry is long gone
These houses were known localy as the blocks..They housed the workers from cowlairs works and apparently were very nice dwellings. They were demolished around 1970 and the ground lay derelict for some time until a concrete jungle was built on it
Same view today..St Aloyuis primary school still there
Another view of the blocks
This is what replaced them
and the flats today

Aye Kev yir right we are pig sick of looking at this stuff
If you have more get it posted and stop trying to draw us out like mad junkies
Sterling Stuff indeed.
The empty shed is a strange photo when you consider how many guys toiled in there day in day out for years. _________________ MY FLICKR
