Nice map. I'm peeking at the bottom left and about to go off searching for more info about that station.
I also now understand why the topography at the bottom of Todd Street is so bloody odd. _________________ Oh no, said Thomas, I sound like an out of work Beatle |

It then carried on over a set of arches with a spur to what was then parkhead forge or you could go straight on till you hit haghill.
I remember being up on this huge bridge as a kid as we played on the old embankments and was amazed to find someone had dug huge holes all over it then covered them with branches.
I remember this getting took away sometime around 78-79.
P.S it crossed the gallowgate just about where the roundabout at kfc is now .... There was a bar there and it was the quick way down when the railway cops showed up lol ...

Cybers, I went to St. Annes Primary from 1977, I remember a classmate who stayed in Barrowfield telling me a story, about someone from Barrowfield who had two metal hooks for hands, as someone had cut their hands off up on the bridge Was that just an urban myth, or can you remember anything like that? _________________ Get On Your Boots |

SNP vows £8m station revamp will go ahead (Evening Times)
A MULTI-MILLION pound revamp of a rail station central to the 2014 Commonwealth
Games will definitely go ahead.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has quelled fears raised by Glasgow City
Council leader Steven Purcell last night over plans for Dalmarnock Station which
is near Games' sites in the East End.
Following a meeting attended by both Mr Purcell and First Minister Alex Salmond,
the council leader said he failed to get an assurance the Government would
give the guarantees needed to access EU funding for the project.
Relations between the Labour-led city council and SNP Scottish Government
were damaged after the Glasgow Airport Rail Link was scrapped last week.
However today, Nicola Sturgeon, revealed the £8million station plan will go
ahead with full Govern-ment support. Mr Salmond had earlier told the council
leader he should be "optimistic" about the project.
Ms Sturgeon, said: "When the First Minister said Steven Purcell should be optimistic
about Dalmarnock Station, it would have been better if he had taken yes for an
answer in the best interests of Glasgow, rather than play party politics. I'm
delighted to confirm to the Evening Times that Ministers fully intend to underwrite
the application for European funding to renovate Dalmarnock Railway Station.
"We are committed to this project, which will be great for the Games and great
for Glasgow."
The station, which will also be closest to the new velodrome and athletes village
has been described as the "Gateway to the Games" but badly needed upgrading.
The plan for the station will include lift access to platforms, a new building,
covered passenger area and a new frontage.
Mr Purcell said today: "I am delighted that a funding package has been pulled
together and Dalmarnock station will be brought up to the standard that visitors
to the Commonwealth Games will expect."
Ms Sturgeon said transport in Glasgow will not be affected by the airport rail link
decision and many other multi million pound projects would provide the necessary
improvements.
She added "The specific commitment was a dedicated and accessible transport
service to the Games Village, and that is exactly what will be delivered."

Love that water feature where it looks like they have split the river in 2 .
All in all looks like a great bit of planning. Transport links need sorted but all in all smart and will be great to see a bit of brown site regenerated.
But does it need to be called after Chris Hoy, Why not be daring and call it after someone who devoted a lifetime to sport instead of a guy who shone once.
Tommy Burns, as an example born and raised in the east end.
But there are plenty Glaswegians more deserving i am sure.

£18m stadium of dreams looks a winner (Evening Times)
GLASGOW'S 2014 Commonwealth Games have been given a boost as the finishing
touches are made to the revamped Scotstoun Stadium.
As the £18million refurbishment of the stadium draws to a close, Scottish Secretary
Jim Murphy and UK Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe took a guided tour of the new
facility, joined by some of Scotland's future top sprinters from Glasgow School
of Sport.
One of Glasgow's biggest leisure centres, Scotstoun Stadium will play a huge part
in the Games and culture bosses hope the new look will make the facility more
accessible to the public and allow Glasgow to bid for more world-class athletic
events.
Mr Murphy said: "Scotstoun has a proud name in Scottish athletics, but the
improvements that have been made make this facility fit for the international
athletes who will train and compete here in 2014.
"People across Scotland can see the huge benefit the Games will be for the whole
country, and particularly for Glasgow.
"Standing inside the stadium on a freezing cold November morning just shows the
potential for the arena. No matter what the weather, athletes from all different
sports will be able to train in comfort and warmth.
"I was always looking forward to seeing the new facilities, but they really are better
than anything I could imagine.
"Scotstoun is now the Rolls-Royce of training facilities."
As well as a full-length indoor warm-up track, there is a refurbished track and field,
new conditioning suites and state-of-the-art media facilities.
The adjacent leisure facility will also be a key training centre for the Games for
both elite and up-and-coming athletes. Toilets, showers and changing rooms have
also been improved, with a new spa and steam room added.

Cost of 2014 Games 'set to soar' (BBC)
The budget for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is to be increased
by £80m, BBC Scotland understands.
The bulk of the money will come from the Scottish government and Glasgow
City Council. It is thought some of the extra cash will be used to enable the
games to be broadcast on high definition TV.
The original budget for the games was set at £373m but more funds are said
to be required as a result of the global economic recession. It is understood
global economic circumstances have changed the figures originally outlined
to cover the cost of staging the games.
An announcement on the additional funding is expected to be made early next week.

Surely the broadcasting company should be paying for the high definition broadcast?
