Hiya Chateau du Lait

Was a resident of Castlemilk at one time, both my houses as a kid on the aerial pics of Glenacre Drive and the old Ardmaleish Crescent

Putting up some more, unfortunately, not Castlemilk tho - very few pics of Castlemilk in the 70's going around to be honest, unless I go and re-scan newspaper archives where there is plenty!

Cheers

Okay Folks and Folkettes

Round Three of The City Tour

Enjoy!!

Allison Street at Victoria Road - July 1977

Cathcart Road at Allison Street - March 1977

Rutherglen Road at Queensferry Street - June 1976

Main Street at Trafalgar Street and French Street - April 1975

Main Street between Bridgeton Cross and Muslin Street - June 1974

According to the date on the pic, this picture was taken when I was just two days old!

Baltic Street near Ruby Street - September 1974

Ruby Street between the wasted tenement and the Multi's - unaware of what the street is on the first left, though now it's called Fairbairn Path, would it have been Fairbairn Street?

A Children's Home later occupied the site of the tenement block and was named Maxton after James Maxton, the local MP, the children's home has since been demolished.

Dalmarnock Road at Muslin Street and Pirn Street - October 1974

Dalmarnock Road at Heron Street - August 1974

Glasgow Green (Doulton Fountain) - August 1974

London Road at Green Street - September 1974

Abercromby Street at Crownpoint Road - September 1974

Gallowgate at Market Street and Graham Square - April 1976

Gallowgate at Bain Street - October 1974

Gallowgate at McFarlane Street - October 1974

Gallowgate at Spoutmouth - April 1970

Gallowgate at Moir Street and Spoutmouth - April 1970

Molendinar Street at Spoutmouth - April 1970

Gallowgate at Molendinar Street - April 1970

Argyle Street at Union Street - May 1977

Hope Street at Gordon Street - October 1977

Union Street - April 1970

Renfield Street - May 1975

Cowcaddens Road at Cambridge Street - February 1978

Some of these images are a bit dodgy for viewing, but some of the originals like the Cowcaddens one immediately above were absolutely manky, though the Bridgeton and Calton one's were very poor, with some having very little colour properties - possibly slides that had been exposed to light over the years.

I think this is my whack with regards to my 70's stock, I have a stock of 60's and 80's stuff which I will add to other threads at a later date, outwith stuff I done myself around the city between 1990 and 2005

Cheers Everybody

Hi flash, looking at one of the photos of Gallowgate and Molandinar st how did they get away with pulling that building down.
I will tell you this, you are making east enders a wee bit happier, that more shots of where they lived are turning up.
I cant remember if you said you did have much  from my part of town North end Springburn.

Keep posting.

Afternoon Norrie

Springburn is where I currently live and WE are currently giving Labour a good roasting on here with regards to their atrocious record of de-urbanising what was a fine city full of architectural gems.

On top of there being a by-election just now, I have been making some of my thoughts and concerns known to Willie Bain, currently a candidate hoping to replace the speaker who lived in opulence whilst his constituents have been fed a continous diet of Social Problems.

Bunch of clowns must think we have the mindspan of goldfish.

I was campaigning to the West Of Scotland HA and the fools which are GCC to save the remaining part of Cowlairs Loco Works, an old Gate Post that sits on Carlisle Street

But yes, you may have saw the pics of Springburn in the 70's from the wetpaint site on the net, they have some good images documenting the area from the 50's onwards as it was destined for the chop so Bishopbriggs Spam Valley Brigade could get a nice car ride to and from work

Now that the road has ripped the place apart, Shitehill is being flattened, would have made more sense to have originally built the road from Baird Street, around Pinkston and up through the old Cowlairs site with a flyover at Hawthorn Street

They didn't do that, so you kinda get the impression that the demolition of Springburn was deliberate, like what was happening in most parts of Old Inner City Glasgow at the time and all of which was a Labour product.

Just a wee bit of homework I thought I would share, hope it doesn't distress anybody out there

The site for the Sprinburn pics Norrie >>>>>> http://oldspringburn.wetpaint.com...os/album/68729/Springburn+in+1977

The page also has a list at the left hand side where you will be able to obtain more images
