Wow this is great James

I remember Whatlings doing the work on the motorway at the bottom of our back garden. Due to the location of our house they had to fit secondary glazing. My mother fought for them to secondary glaze all the windows. They intended to just do the back windows. She also gained concessions from them on the work to reconstruct our back garden. There was regular meetings with the local residents to agree timing of the blasting which was required to construct the motorway. When you pass by Barlinnie Prison heading east you can see the rocks before the flyover which replaced the old wooden bridge on Gartcraig Road.

Almost the same location as the last one above.

And one before the motorway was built

Springburn Expressway, looking South - the dual carriageway which was built
in the early 1980s. The buildings on the right mark the point where Hawthorn
Street met the old Springburn Road at a T-junction. Pic of that >> here << by
kev from the Past Present thead.

Springburn Road looking North where it reverts to a single carriageway
heading for Bishopbriggs.
