West End churches at risk of demolition.

The reverend of Lansdowne Parish church opened the doors on Sunday afternoon to allow photographers in to document the church from multiple angles. The pictures may be used in the campaign to save the church from closure. The main church itself is closed to the public as it is classed as 'unsafe' due to dryrot and the usual other suspects.

And I'll post some pics here later when flickr cures itself of the hiccups

I have a few pictures I took of the outside on Saturday. Will try and post some later.

I've no sympathy for the place that's where I got married*

Here's a couple of contrasting  pic's I took some years ago

February 1989

Love the ghostly alter ...
Though when Fjord comes out of hiding it might be called the ghastly alter...

That Lansdowne Parish Church looks a magnificent building, built in the days when all Church buildings, large or small, looked magnificent.

It would be so sad if that building had to come down !

As no great lover of the church in general i will not miss its inhabitants...
The building on the other hand would be a sad loss indeed.
I would however giggle with a certain irony if the biggest land owning tax dodger known to man were to ask the government for a handout .... Like so many of our Privately owned banks who have taken the dosh and gave themselves a smashing big bonus.

And that is before i even get started on religion !!!

Lansdowne Parish Church

I was married there as well. 1960's ministers name was Tom Williamson, he was well known at the time.
The better half was a local and a member of the Church. I was a yokel from the sticks not used to the big smoke.
I always say she is worth a Rolls Royce to me as that is what I would be driving now if she had not came along.

regards
