The one with the lady seems particularly poignant. I somehow imagine she's looking at her old tenement at the same time as she is looking at the new tower block and perhaps feeling a mixture of emotions.

I've only ever visited towers, but I have lived in a tenement. I know which I would choose.

Hi cybers, I worked as a Concierge in Gorbals, even we were beaten to the luckies by the punters

Having said that we did pick up pefectly good fridge freezers for our office now and then, if your not fast you are last

How I remember luck didgies when I was a boy in Springburn.
Funny how we never caught any life threatning diseases.

Norrie i think the reason we never caught anything is because we were never obsessed with hygiene on the sort of levels we have today. That and an overdose of playing outside.

How many of us when the summer hols came as soon as we were awake were pulling at the door wanting out rain hail or shine and ya big beauty if it was a violent thunderstorm hiding in the close watching the lightning.

We played all day hide and seek, lucky middens,Kick the Kan, football.
Sweets were dropped with the god kissed it devil missed it rhyme and we went home for our bath...and schools had pink carbolic soap and the nit nurse (Bitch)

Now Tarquin and little Kylie are sprayed with Dettol washed with scented liquid soaps bathed before leaving the house and bathed upon return no outside playing in the fresh air and off school sick all the time.

Who suffered .. us or them ?

Ah! The memories Cybers.

It was great growing up in Glasgow and full of adventures.

Living in Cowcaddens during the slum clearances we had lots of empty houses to explore and see if anyone had left anything valuable behind when they moved to their new homes out in the peripheral estates. When we moved there was always the seasonal adventures which took place at the same time every year.

Think the reasons we have the memories Alex is we never had all these consoles... 20 years from now there will be entire forums devoted to consoles as the people on them will have no clue about who they are offline never mind anything about where they live.

Back in the 70's 80's who ever got a ball for birthdays xmas or just for bieng good was king of the street and most of the street got a game .... Pals on one side usually sworn enemies on the other and we all played from dawn to dusk .... the famous 10-21er

Our's were played at a neutral ground for a Barrowfield kid... Vinegarhill . Ruts and water drainage troughs an all...
Everyone wanted to be Pele or Souness or the most famous jag Alan Rough and hard stars of the day not like these pampered so called heroes of today.

cybers,talking about someone on the street having a football.do you recall every now and then the ball would be egg shaped after lying near a coal fire in the house.you still used it as it was better than no ball.

Remember all those memories... egg shaped ball from sitting on the bugger at half time too...

I still feel the pain of getting skelped full ding with a posh Mitre 5...
It was travelling with a fair bit of spin on it and was about 1 hour old

It removed most of my nose and i dont mean skin... I mean those little dimply bits tore my nose off my face, stitches either side

but the worst part was getting the red ash picked out and nose washed with the purple liquid

Hi alex, big changes around that area in Hutchesontown, I certainly didnt see any underpass going under Ballater st.
I worked in Gorbals from 1994 , never heard anyone talking about it.

I was thinking more of street photos , not family ones but the trouble is nobody took photos of the street unless their family were in them.
Maybe someday a new membrr will come on the board and have loads of photos to share.

I wonder if they filled it in because they knew that area was going to be redeveloped.
The other end must have opened into the Waddell Court area.

What about concussion from an over inflated bladder of a sore head from heading the lases. Moldmasters were a bugger for giving you a dimpled mark on any bare part of your body it hit. Gone are the days of 21 a side or a 10-21er. Games that went on most of the day. From the team selection to the final goal I remember a game that had to stop for half time after three hours for everyone to go for something to eat. A piece and jam and a glass of milk and back on the spare ground for the kick-off for the second half. It finally finished at 5.00 on a promise that it should be the same teams the next day for a return match.

Or the match that finished before any team could score 21 goals because the guy who's ball it was had to go for his dinner and wouldn't leave his new ball.

Anyway we got to talking about various things and this site came up and he basically quoted this entire thread to me including this mornings postings.

He was fair amazed to learn it was me that had my nose off tried to entice him out of the shadows and sign in proper but he was a shy one.
Said when his photography gets better he will sign up till then quite content to just read.
Thing is some of the stuff he was relating goes back a billion years.... And if you are reading this i meant that in the kindest possible terms.

Personally hope he does not wait till the photography improves as i am sure we can help him with that if he would care to fill in some of the blanks we have.

Norrie it is about an hour long and has a few photos and modern video with a guy called Peter Savage narrating.

I know I don't exactly have a good track record in sending stuff to you but will make up a disc and hopefully get it to you before the end of the year.

Hi Alex, I have met Peter,he worked from an office in Norfolk Court a long time ago ,I got him a lot of the photos of Gorbals, from the planning dept, some day I will post them on here.

Hi alex, thanks for the offer but they are all on my pc, just a matter of putting them into photobucket, I dare say that a lot of them are already on photobucket and Pals, might be able to copy them from there, a lot easier thats for sure.
The quality is not as good as Strepadairs but its a record of all that was demolished in Gorbals, a few streets are missing.
It wont be done this year, I am trying to finish photographing the Tenements in Glasgow, finished Anniesland and Temple on Monday.
I hope to get on with Shettleston next week and finish that area.
Only a wee bit of Park Circus and Ballieston after that a dawdle.
No doubt it will take me a long time to post all the photos.

Hi alex, well I have been taking photos of Glasgow for years B&W, say early 90s but it was 35 mm so there are not as many.
I got digital 2003? 4? and I just took off from there but have gathered momentum over the past three years or so since I retired early.
I have walked all of Glasgow streets that have tenements in them, I dont think I have missed any, I hope.
They will end up on here, I have had so many photos from you from Glasgows past I want to return the favour.
The old Gorbals photos I didnt take but I have many photos from the tops of the high rises showing Gorbals as it is.
I am, adding photos now and then as buildings are finished, I was hoping that Gorbals and Oatlands would be finished soon, this credit crunch has slowed building down

When i was in Oatlands at the weekend i was amazed how little forward the building work had actually gone.
Whilst the new road forges ahead at quite a lick the surrounding stuff seems to have stopped.
It would be nice to see what you have to offer as i firmly believe any record is better than no record.
Though i get a feeling you might actually be a little like me and have a shallow belief in your own ability.

Hi cybers ,this credit crunch has stopped all of the private building in Oatlands, some New Gorbals H.A and GHA work is being done.
I must admit in the past I have had the attitude about my stuff " it may be crap but its mine"

Now I am Ok with it, dare say it is not technically correct at times but what I want to do is leave a record of the Tenements in Glasgow to be enjoyed for years to come, that way we wont need to wait for stuff to be found in a biscuit tin.
I have not opened Photobucket to anyone and the photos will be going on only a few sites.
Perhaps when I finish I may open photobucket.
Thanks for your interest, if you are all only half as pleased with my suff as your were with Strepadairs, then that will do for me.
