Most excellent.

The wee building in the top image with the 3 windows on the side and the row
of chimneys is still there. Saint Rollox station was down in a deep cutting next
to it. The tenements on the opposite side of Springburn Road - I have no memory
of these but the gable end marked the point where the Buchanan Street railway
line passed by in a cutting.

The bottom image - I rememeber those gates very well.

James.. there was a pub until fairly recently across from the caley.Would that not have been its tenement?

The infamous Cawder Bar. No, that was on the opposite side on the railway line
i.e. the North side. Those tenements are on the South side of it. The pub did have
tenements above it but it's just out of shot.

St Rollox Station 1950s

scammel scarabs, had a variety of trailers to fit on, BR must have had thousands of them - the predecessors were actually called 'mechanical horses'!

love this pic, you could just imagine the first big hill, it would grind to a halt, then just tip backwards with the cab in the air

i think the other lorry coming towards the camera has an early container, when loading containerised, contained loads onto wagons was still a bit 'new'

these are all great photos, showing so much about what at the time, would have been a rather 'ordinary' subject, but 40 years later, it's pure 'time capsule' stuff

excellent

Too true and the cargo was just as typical Glasgow style Fags n' Booze being the mainstay of commerce being exported back in the day.

Black & White Blended Whisky being loaded onto a railway wagon in Sighthill.

WD& HO Will's Tobacconist Alexandra Parade were major customers
rotten milk

meandering slightly offtopic

my gran used to have straight-sided tumblers with the logos of various whisky brands on

only in retrospect did i realise that some of these famous whisky names, after buy-outs, takeovers etc., still exist, albeit probably 'for export only'

black and white, vat69, teachers, johnnie walker red/black/green label etc.

all spotted when on hollybags in crete, everyday normal supermarket, but can't think when i ever saw them on sale in an everyday, normal supermarket here? you know, just normal blends, just seems to be bell's or grouse, occasionally grant's

just remembered another : 'don't be vague, ask for.......'
cybers

Stunning set of B&W there Fjord ...
None capturing the odd box getting re-routed of the back of the wagon then ?
I remember this place from visiting one of my ma's pals who lived in Charles St flats
and me and my sister used to look out the window in awe at all the comings and goings down there.
Loved that window as we were never allowed out to play when we made that visit.
