Scotland's History - the one on Radio ScotlandIs anyone else listening to the new BBC Radio Scotland Sunday morning programme, Scotland’s History? It is an excellent level headed discussion, for one thing it strives to ackowledge Scottish Nationalism as something different from Scottish history – IMO all political parties in Scotland could do us all the courtesy of acknowledging that there are two such distinct matters.
One of the vox pop contributors reminded my of my own ‘history’ lessons at school when we were taught all about the French and Russian revolutions but absolutely nothing about the two Scottish Wars of Independence, and all about the Tollpuddle Martyrs but nothing about the 1820s insurrection and executions in Glasgow. And I was impressed that the programme did not then go for the ranting easy shot of ‘it was all a conspiracy to do down Scottish culture’.
The programme is headed by Leslely Riddoch so you have to make allowances. But at least you can’t see her on radio, whereas on the current TV series you have in-your-face the ghastly cardboard ‘wee dark Scotsman’ act that is Neil Oliver
It bodes well for the prospects for a sensible and rational debate on Scottish history and identity if we are now getting programmes such as the Sunday morning radio Scotland done – I think it’s a three part series.

Forgot all about the radio programmes as well and now because they keep changing the time on TV I have missed most of the TV as well.

I was sent a big old survey asking me about any knowledge I had of this show the other day ... from ScotGov I think it was.

Ooh! that survey sounds interesting Doorstop. I've been working with a few other in trying to interest Scottish Government in some cultural identity activities - it would be interesting to know what they are up to on this front.

Going back to check through my eMails I find it's a ScotView (a subsidiary of YouGov, I'm sure) survey about perception of Scottish history in the general public.
The survey itself focussed mainly on if I had heard the "Scotlands' History" program and where I had heard about it, followed by an in depth questionnaire about how useful I had found certain aspects, then individual programmes, of the slot to be.
I can't access the actual questionnaire to determine it's focus now though .. the deadline to update the survey passed a few days ago.
