Great photos Kev
The one of George Square/City Chambers looks like it has GO 1 outside the front door of the Chambers waiting on the Lord Provost. If your year is 1983 then that would have been Michael Kelly. If it was later in 1984 then it would have been Robert Gray.

Given that the entire area was wiped off the face of the earth, the exact answer
to that is difficult. As the Springburn Expressway and the Townhead Interchange
were being built the actual exit of that off-ramp would've changed over time.
The first pic below is from the late 1960s and the two pics below that are from circa
1984. Originally, it exited onto Kennedy Street, then later onto the partially-built
Springburn Expressway.
Late 1960s - exit is onto Kennedy Street.
c.1984 - exit is onto the Springburn Expressway.
c.1984 - exit is onto the Springburn Expressway and then onto Castle Street,
upper left.
As Stuball says, it now takes you out directly onto Castle Street next to the Blind
Asylum, but that section is on a raised flyover. It took them a long time to build
all this, as I recall.

building through the windscreen is the now derelict springburn halls

*Pedant alert*
Actually that's looking up Oswald Street from the KGV bridge before it reaches Hope Street at the junction of Argyle St.
Great view of the Westergate building under construction and the gap site of a former bonded warehouse and church where the NCP carpark is now.
The photo's above have so much detail that's often forgotten like the bold advertising for Gordon's Gin and (Teachers?)Scotch Whisky on the Broomielaw building façade that were illuminated at night not to mention the Quarter Gil pub on the corner of Midland Street that survives to this day. Last but not least the SPT orange and black buses... I'll leave that for now as I'm stepping into Glasgowken territory.
Kev9 your photo's are modern classics and thanks for sharing these on UG they're all crowd pleaser's BTW

The Westergate Building - I can never remember the name of that even though
I recall the site when it was, as the yanks say, a vacant lot and I remember it actually
being built. There's some history in the basement of that building, I'm sure...

I worked in Oswald Street before the Westergate building was started and it had previously been used as a temorary carpark. The site had been vacant for a long number of years. I don't think there will be anything left in the basement. I think everything was removed pre construstion.
I have a photo of the Plaque at Westergate

There was a single storey row of shops there. The area underneath was the northern

I think those pics were taken around the mid-late 1970s. The Low Level
line was closed in 1964 and reopened in 1979.

RE: the mad buyer - was this no' one o' the shops along the gallowgate, before you get to the barras - late 80s there were still loads of shops selling 2nd-hand electrical/music equipment - old guitars/amps/keyboards etc. - you were never going to get a vintage bargain (maybe an all-valve marshall occasionally), but loads of 70s stuff - remember wanting an antoria SG junior but couldn't afford the £90 price-tag!
