kev

Thanks

Cheers Alex
I have been absolutly fascinated by urban Glasgow since I found it
about 2 months ago.Telling everyone about it
I have a load of photos I took about 83/84
will dig them out and post them when I get time .
Alex Glass

Look forward to seeing your photos Kev.

It is great to see personal photos taken years ago. They hve a history all of their own. We were fortunate to get hold of part of a collection and allowed to post them in the Andrew Charles Paul Collection.

I wish I had taken more photos as I grew up but the cost of developing were too high.

Are your photos of any particular area Kev?
kev

Alex
I bought my first SLR around that time and shot different
stuff around the city to experiment.
havent looked at them for years but remember some were  at the old
docks as the filling in had just finished prior to the Garden festival
the building of the exibition centre.
think there is one of a derelict tenement under the Kinston bridge
where Harry Ransdoms chippy is. Old springburn tenement refurb,
various city centre shots and the Townhead interchange being built
Probably pretty boring but when I find them I will stick them on
Cheers.
Alex Glass

On here they are not classed as boring. You are with friends and I am sure like me others will be watering at the mouth with the prospect of seeing your photos Kev.

I hope you manage to find them and post them up. I really would like to see what you have in your collection

Looking forward to you pics kev. Welcome.

to Urban Glasgow kev9.

Nice find about Springburn. I take it the person who scanned in that map was
a golfer?

Get those photos posted, Kev.
kev

Hi all
Not sure about the golfer but i remember one of my
first jobs was a TV installer for Granada TV when people
rented there tellys [circa 1984 ]
the A/Z you could buy in the shops handn,t been updated at that time
and I recognised it right away as these were the areas i worked
installing TV,s and massive VCRs.
The Springburn site is great I lived there till 1980 so can remember
all of it before it was obliterated .. there are some pics of the demolition
and the new road being built ,sad but great to see.
will dig out my old pics.. think they are in my mothers attic.
Cheers

Nice one Kev

It is interesting to hear stories of real memories of areas as it adds to the history of Glasgow.

We can't wait to see your photos and hopefully hear a bit more about the areas you photographed.

Assume you guys have seen this site

First time I've seen it, no 'Beir Kellar' on Union Street though, can no-one help me with the exact location?   Great resource, cheers.

122 Union Street - part of ground floor and all of basement (Ca'D'Oro building) - leased by Stakis from Co-op Insurance.
HollowHorn

Excellenty.
kev

Beir Kellar then bacame one of the first trendy pubs in Glasgow
It was called City Limits.... round about late 77 early 78 and had
a DJ playing disco music
I seem to remember that the price of a pint went up 10p on a
Friday and Saturday night..
I,m sure in closed around 1980 and didnt open as a pub again
[ could be wrong about the last point ]
If you come out of the Union street exit from Central station and look staight across the road ,that was where the entrance was .
Cheers
HollowHorn

Cheers, Kev. My memory had it further down the street.
neilmc

Frustratingly, it's just out of frame (to the right of the City Bakeries) in this great photo:-

Cheers Kev, nice to find out a bit of History about a few of my favourite watering holes
me

anyone know what this symbol means?

theduke

It denotes that there is a church there.
me

ye thought that but didnt think there was every a church there....not as late as 56 anyway
theduke

Might not be, they're not always up to date. I had a Glasgow A-Z from circa 1983, it showed 2 churches in Whitevale Street, Dennistoun, when one of them burned down about 8 years previously.
