HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

was up at sighthill today and can shed some light on demolition timescales... ... compass is having trouble with clearing the remianing tower(the one at the shops, the one in front of the stripped tower is empty and due to be handed over immenetly) so from what i could gleen today the feb/march blowdown is off, we are most likely looking at a late 2009 blowdown for the three remaining fountinwell towers(the contractor, tds is in talks with network rail so there could be a midnight blowdown for the fountainwell three will keep you guy's and gal's posted, also got a cool photo that i will post when i was on site!

Hello, just thought I'd post a wee update.  The block at Huntingdon Square has been emptied now and they haven't wasted any time on getting to work on it.

I'm going to take a wander over at the weekend ask the workies if there's an approximate date set yet.

Alex Glass

 to Urban Glasgow Katimac

Thanks for the update
kev

Took some shots there a few weeks ago

katimac

Great pictures Kev9.  Here's a couple I took today

The block overlooking Huntingdon Square - a couple of days ago the workies put flags on the roof - I wonder if that's to mark which one the phone masts are to be removed from.

A view of all three blocks to be demolished taken from Kepochhill Road

I noticed there was a small group of people inside the Huntingdon block at 10pm tonight wearing headtorches
maximusmop

been up to fountinwell avenue and it looks like a late november blowdown for all three block's, the intresting part is that network rail are insisting on another 2.30 ish inthe morning demolition as the dust etc will disrupt queen street service's.

heres a picture i took of the south facing side of 49 fountinwell avenue

danielbhoy

Hi everyone i'm new to this site but i took these pics today and i thought i would share with the world hope you enjoy

james73

maximusmop

was doing my job as a bus driver and the buiding was still intact at 10 am ish went past at 12 noon and it was half gone! great pictures!
danielbhoy

i went past the houses at half 9 this morning at it was still the same so wonder when they will finish them
katimac

I just passed the flats, and it looks like they're still no further on.  With the rate they were going at yesterday, I half expected to arrive home from work to find them completely demolished.
Alex Glass

to Urban Glasgow Danielbhoy

Great photos

Had forgotten that they were also coming down. Noticed they were all empty the last time I took a walk through there a couple of months back.
katimac

Do you have any idea of what's planned for the area once it's been flattened Alex?
Alex Glass

It is difficult to get anyone who knows what is going on with these regeneration areas. There may have been meetings with local residents sometime ago to discuss the demolition and what could possibly replace all the houses that are being demolished.

I will try and find out if there are any details available but feel that due to the current economic situation it may be that their plans may have to change.
katimac

That's good of you, thanks very much
danielbhoy

hi heres a little foto update hope you enjoy

gallowgategal

Danielbhoy, thanks so much for sharing photos. My family moved into that block in May 1973 when they first opened. Following a house fire in November 1998 my mum moved from the top floor 4 apartments to the house directly below which was a wee one bedroomed house. My mum was the last tenant out in November 2008 and has now moved into a lovely new house in Balornock.

I had been driving through Sighthill twice a week to try and catch the demolition but it was done when I was on holiday in Majorca

Here are some of the photos I took a few months ago, then some when I got back from holiday

danielbhoy

gallowgategal sorry to sounda bit forward but whats your name (incase i know u lol)

danielbhoy

Hi ive just found out that the 3 high rise flats in sighthill will be coming down on sat 28th nov 2009 and its a middle the night shot again dont the time but i belive it will 2.30 am
maximusmop

when i was up and spoke to someone from tds, they explained that network rail was the driving force behind the midnight demolition, the exclustion zone for this demolition will be massive, gonig to start a hunt for the sweet spot soon!
danielbhoy

i think the best spot to stand would be cowlairs parks or even the bus stop at tesco (i was goin to try the graveyard but i think that might be a no no)

That's good to know.  I found out the other day that I'm in the evacuation area and will need to leave my flat at 4pm at the latest, but they couldn't give me a date when I spoke to them.

The block overlooking Huntingdon Square:

there is another sweet spot for the demolition, where the 45 bus turns right and heads up through fountinwell, will post a photo soon , have to take it !!!!

saturday night into sunday, one bit of news the geotex fabric is now round the base of all three towers!
stuarty374

where is the best and safest vantage point
danielbhoy

the only place i can think of is at the traffic lights at tesco
Kevin_Mc

i passed through Sighthill today on my way home and they're definately 99% ready to come down.

I heard the whisper it was Saturday 28th November into Sunday 29th, at midnight-2am again.

The last lot to come down were best veiwed from Carlisle Street, which is where i took this video -

How about the cemetery, or do you think the whole of the graveyard will be closed off?
danielbhoy

i think the cemetery will be closed off but its worth a try

The cemetery was closed for the last one - the police were round it a few times with the dogs to make sure no one had sneaked in

Try phoning the concierge on the site or the concierge managers........Might be more helpful.

If you need phone numbers then give me a shout........

Demolition times are always embargoed to keep the hoards away apparently.

Reminds me of a workmate who got up early on a Sunday morning to see the first of the Dalmarnock towers coming down.

He was well chuffed with himself when he arrived and the early morning sun shone brightly and not a soul around and a prime location for the camera all set up ready to go... Sorted!

Two hours passed by without a hint of demolition activity so he chinned a passing demolition worker and enquired when it was coming down.

The demo fella replied "......came down over two hours ago mate"
Kevin_Mc

i'm going to take a quick drive down just now to see if there's any signs of a move like last time. Seems doubtful now but i'll have a look and report back

He was even more raging when i told him that I knew the exact time it was coming down. All he had to do was phone me and ask.

should be the same setup as last time three warning sirens, one at 10 minutes to dem, then one at 5 minutes, then then the final one at 30 seconds, since the death of helen tinney at the qes demolition in the gorbals demoltion date are not given out in the press, so watch the evening times who will no doubt have a wee article on the demolition on the 27th!!!!

latest fountinwell picture

James H

took me a while to draw this map up(bit rough and not exact) but this is roughly the no go area that will be enforced for the demolition, note everything inside the black line is out of bounds so choose your own photographic sweet spot carefully, my advice would be to go to sighthill on the 28th after 12 noon and reckie the area, as thats my plan!

here is the rough no go area on a google map

if anyone knows a tennant in the remaining towers that would also be a good viewing spot!
Fjord

Good work fella that answers a few question's
Kevin_Mc

i think i'll be going back to roughly where i took this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNxlbNvPYJ4

probably go higher up onto the grass at Cowlairs park for a better veiw
james73

danielbhoy

its defo half 2 i was talking to the police today
Kevin_Mc

i didn't see anybody about and the temptation of a closed street + roundabout + RWD Sierra took over

half 2 it is then
AlanM

I'll be heading over at the back of 1.

Which side gives the best view? The Tesco side or the Keppochill side.

Last time Carlisle Rd @ Keppochill was best but the 3 that are coming down tonight would have blocked the view from that side
maximusmop

you will only see two of the three blocks if you are at tesco, the best viewing place will be kepochill road at the garage if the fog clears but the bbc weather says clear skys for 2am/3am mark, heres hoping.
danielbhoy

thats what i was goin to say
maximusmop

yeah the fog's lifted game on!!!!!!
danielbhoy

lets hope it stays away this time

gallowgategal

I drove through Sighthill tonight about 6.30 qnd Fountainwell Road was already closed off.

Had a wee greet to myself as I lived in Huntingdon Square for 22 years and had close friends living in the 3 blocks coming down tonight.

I know the UG peoples will do us proud though and I'm really looking forward  to seeing photos later

I'd stay put in this location as the wind is coming from the North East albeit at 2mph according to http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ which will blow the dust cloud away from this viewpoint.
Scary

Good luck guys as I  can`t be arsed at that time of the morn
