GrahamstonI dont know if anyone has posted anything about Grahamston, but I couldnt see anything.
Does anyone know if there is any truth in the rumour that some of the village still sits under central station?
It would be rather amazing if so! The story about Grahamston is pretty amazing!

I'm afraid it's a bit of a myth. There was no village by the time Central Station was built.
Alston Street ran from Gordon Street to Argyle Street dissecting what is now the station.
Either side of Alston Street was heavily built up with grain storehouses, warehouses, sugarhouses, bonded storehouses and St Columba's Church.
It was all flattened in two stages to build the original Central Station, platforms 1-8 then the extension of platforms 9 to 13 at a later date.

Don't believe that map on that website though which for some reason is only showing certain buildings. The area was a helluva lot more built up than that! It certainly wasn't a village and it is all gone now.
Indeed this map of Alston Street shows how built up the area was and was drawn 22 years before Central Station opened.

Would be nice if it were otherwise but hey ho.
I believe two buildings are still standing, the CRM Hotel & the pub building just before the bridge, my memory has deserted me.

Yeah, the Grant Arms. I discovered that only yesterday! I always liked that building, ever since I learned to look UP in Glasgow and see some of the amazing buildings that get missed by people walking by every day! Its amazing how Grahamston is almost forgotten in all the stories that you hear about Glasgow given its prominent position!
