Glasgows Remaining Cobbled streetsWhilst out and about yesterday I came across a few streets with cobbles remaining..wonder how many still remain throughout the city
This is the remains of the entrance to the Germiston iron works just off Petershill road in the north of the city
Stafford street just off Kyle st near where the tunnel portal for Buchanan st station is
North Wallace street..in the same area

There is something very charming about thes streets, even the ones with the broken tarmac.

The clyde walkway..
Looks like they gave up doing it up about 4/5ths of the way along from Jamacia st

Water row in Govan ...think this was the way to the old Govan ferry

These are rails that the shipyards used to transport steel etc about on heavy duty hand pushed bogeys..Harland and Wolfe had a yard where the houses are now so think it must have been theirs .

I like the cobbles in fordneuk street better than all the others,I think cobbles made the street much more interesting looking,I remember listening to a couple of old guys in a cafe a few years ago and they said they were fed up seeing there road being dug up and resurfaced and they both seemed to agree that when their old street was cobbled there was never all those repairs needing done to them.

Cobbles are OK for side streets to maintain rustic character and visual appeal but for heavily trafficked city streets they're noisy and they don't have enough skid resistance.
Lovely photos though.
