Great pics EGT !

I left Glasgow as a ten year old at the end of 1960 but, nearly fifty years later, your pics remind me of the Glasgow I left.

This one is Byres Rd @ Hillhead Station. The Laing sign propped up against the gable of Curlers.

The shop across the road was Carole Wilson, florist - Oddbins lives there now.

I can't remember what the green shop on the corner where Greggs is now was though

Had a look at your first post here Eddie. Maybe if you try just posting the url between [img][/img] it may work. I don't think you need to post the url between as well.

Hope that helps

I tried the attach file button, the files are on my C: drive rather than on the net.

You cant display pictures like that. They need to be hosted on the net somewhere.

Try either Tinypic or Photobucket - they are both free to use.

I think it was further down, between Highburgh Rd and Dowanside Rd - either where Little Italy is or next door.

I remember there being a Fine Fare in Ashton Lane (where the Ashoka is now, used to be Cooper's before that but that was before my time) during the reconstrustion, remember walking through hoardings to get to it.

Wasnt the Malcolm Campbells where Peckhams is now?

In June 1979 a shop opened on that corner called 'Truly Fair Discount Toiletries', which would tie in with the era of the photo.

Thats the Hyndland Rd branch you're thinking of, the Byres Rd branch was definatley on the west side of Byres Rd.

Nothing to do with the Underground. See here - when they were reopening the
Glasgow Central Low Level line in 1979 they wanted to connect it to the Queen
Street line just before Partick station. So, they created a short section of new tunnel
(single track) for the eastbound line which burrowed into the old Yorkhill tunnel and
exits at the SECC station. The westbound line climbs up the side of the retaining
wall alongside the Clydeside Expressway adjacent to the SECC.
