I climbed over that bridge a few times when I was a kid.... theres little bits you can hide either side when the trains go by
It wasnt a passenger line at the time... just coal wagons

See now you should place a creepy little Japanese kid in that spot and freak all the passengers out.

Only me thinking that?

I think it was a freight line across the river.

rotten milk

it was a skew bridge carrying a single-line spur from the dawsholm branch round to the gas works that sat to the south of the canal, just where the queen st - anniesland spur goes under the canal on its way into anniesland

just found a section of map, can't remember where i got it, so apologies!
marked as C.R. Temple Branch, interestingly shows a section of tunnel along the south bank of the canal, but can't make out how long the tunnel is

couple of views from LiveSearch:

looking north

and interestingly as the line goes under clevedon road:
http://tinyurl.com/q2znm5

although the cutting is full of trees, it's still there with what looks like the bridge intact.
if you were to follow this cutting back east, maybe there would be signs of the western portal of the aforementioned tunnel?

EDIT: just seen the annotated OS map on the 'tunnels' thread - it's kelvindale tunnel
if you follow the line west towards anniesland, there are still a coupla gas holders on the site of the gas works
Stuball

The tunnel is still there and easily accessible from the far end if you know where it is
