Nice one James
Great idea
But you have just used one of the best.

Only one of the best. Get yourself on YouTube - there's plenty to pick from.
Here's another cracker...

Nonsense... this is the best intro ever. From it's kettle drum intro to the rich orchestral drama and just check out that driving Bass line and funky guitar work. A masterpiece of a theme tune

That *is* good, though the pedant in me compels one to point out that that was
the theme tune in the (superior) first series only - the second series had an
overhaul on every conceivable level, sadly starting with the theme tune...

Listen to the guitar effect on this. I have this whole theme tune on mp3.
*edit* - could Lewis Collins have possibly looked any more macho in these credits??
James H

Fjord

I have to agree this was the best version as the second series was very lame in comparison.

I'd forgotten about the 'Minder' theme tune which was one of my weekly favourites when I was a nipper.
I'm sure this charted in the top ten singles back in the day and not surprisingly. There's very high production values going on here and the slap Bass technique was quite advanced for the early 1980's. One thing that's apparent is that without a decent prominent bass line accompanying the main tune it all sounds very weak. Bass Rocks

Re: Favourite TV Theme tunes
I remember Dennis Waterman singing 'I Could be so Good for You' on Top of
The Pops. Great tune, though.
Is it actually a requirement of Waterman that he has to sing the theme song to
any show he appears in?
Good to see James Bolam still going. ITV3 showed the 'The Beiderbecke Affair' /
'The Beiderbecke Tapes' / 'The Beiderbecke Connection' earlier this year, one
after the other. Effortless acting from him in them, along with Barbara Flynn.

I've kinda already replied to this, but yes the 'Minder' theme tune was a hit
single - I mind seeing Dennis Waterman with a full backing band all miming
their way through the 3 & 1/2 minutes of it on Top of the Pops...

Minder and now New Tricks are true light entertainment not complicated by plots within plots and always full of good fun.
Unlike the usual "Who Done It" what you see is what you get and they don't hold back on the information so that you have to watch intently so that you can work out who done it, which usually means you have guest at it because it isn't until the end that they give you the clue that fits all the pieces together. Mainly people are trying to work it out by thinking who looks like the baddie.

I usually quote from someone who has posted a video and just change the part of the code which relates to the actual video.

Cop the Embed code from YouTube, then delete everything before and after
the <.embed.> tags, like so.

My all time favourite TV theme may not originally been done as a tv theme. It's Magie Bell singing the rockier version of No Mean City. I have it as a ringtone on my mobile!
Of course back then there was even a character in the show called TAGGART! I always thought they should have retitled the show 'No Mean City' when Mark McManus passed away. (Or binned it...LOL) I loved Jim Taggart. One of my favourite lines was when Mike Jardine was giving evidence in court and was a little 'too' honest. Deadpan, Taggart looked skyward and said 'Beam me up Scottie'!!
Peace.

never really watched it, was a bit young for it and with only one telly, my folks didn't watch it anyway iirc 9-10pm, so i was away to ma bed!
everyone remembers the gung-ho opening theme, but always seem rather brave to have a different closer, esp. one that's so mournful
maybe highlighting, that although they were trying to get the scum off the streets, they didn't always win, or if they did, it was often a shitty victory

Nice one RM fond memories of the Sweeney
Don't remember the title song but this programme was one of the very few programmes available during the long school holidays.
If I recall it has subtitles as well

if anything, however subconciously, represented the grimness of late 70s/ early 80s to a 9/10 yr old, it was (iirc) 8.30pm on a monday night
opening
can't find the closing titles, although similar to the sweeney, the closer was even more depressing than the opener (i do have an mp3 tho)
anyhoo, howzabout 12.00 noon on a sunday
(curiosly glasgow theme was a complete fluke )

Anyone remember the experimental simulcast that they did with Radio one in Stereo? It was a sort of surround sound system using just the regular two speakers. I don't know if the technology was developed, but my dad and I thought it was impressive.
Peace.

That is a temptation best left alone Alex...
every thing from most of these shows i have some restored some in a sh!t state...
Paid out some silly money on ebay for eagles from space 1999 and always dipping into memorabilia somewhere along the line.
I was barred from the barras, paddys and car boots as she said we had no more room.
I expressed an interest in a car from a recent movie and she told me i better book a bed at St John's on the condition i am still breathing.
Anyhow i digress....
