Simply wonderful photos, one and all, of one of Scotland's more attractive recent erections, and an engineering work of which their forefathers would be proud.

Who remembers the daft gimmick you used to get?...a kind of big beaked bird, it rocked back and forth..more and more, and ended up dipping its beak in water..which made it jump back up again..and so it went on and on and on
...that's what the Falkirk wheel reminds me of.

This is the Govan Seagull. The pilot of the barge says it was made by apprentices at Govan ship yard.
Pee ess...do you call it a pilot?
|
AlanM
|
Yeah, I think it's a pilot if the vessel only uses inland waterways.
|

Inland Waterways can be either. Though i think anyone who owns a boat wants to be the captain ... Or is that just little boys
| Quote: | | Pilots guide ships in and out of harbors, through straits, and on rivers and other confined waterways where a familiarity with local water depths, winds, tides, currents, and hazards such as reefs and shoals are of prime importance. Pilots on river and canal vessels usually are regular crew members, like mates. Harbor pilots are generally independent contractors who accompany vessels while they enter or leave port. Harbor pilots may pilot many ships in a single day |
