East End to get £3.7m new homes

East End to get £3.7m new homes (Evening Times)

PLANS for a £3.7million housing development in Glasgow's East End have
been unveiled.

Thenew Housing association will provide 24 homes in Bridgeton.

Glasgow City Council will provide £2.66m towards the total cost of the work
while Thenew will fund the remaining £1.11m from private borrowing.

Charlie Turner, chief executive of Thenew, said: "There is a real need for such
a development here in Bridgeton to address the housing needs of this area.

"The development will transform an area of ground which has been disused
for some time and is ideally suited to new homes in the heart of one of the
communities we serve."

Thenew chairwoman Yvonne McShea said: "This is an important step forward
as we deliver on our pledge to create new homes in Bridgeton, one of the seven
areas in which we operate as a housing association. We are also pleased our
three local councillors were able to attend."

The homes which will be a mixture of cottage flats and terraced family houses,
are expected to be ready by spring next year.

I bet the shovels were still gleaming later as the real shovel is behind them

Was it *really* necessary for them all to wear a hard hat and hi-vis vest?
