Course in researching local history - starts 11 October

Got a favourite building (or other structure or organisation) you'd like to know more about? Interested in researching the history of your house? Come and be guided through the process of researching local history, and pick up some top tips on presenting your results ...

"Researching local history" More and more people are becoming interested in the history of the immediate area in which they live. This course provides the sources, resources and know-how that enables anyone to research the history of their house, street, district or town. The course introduces a wide variety of sources, including official records, maps, photographs, oral history, censuses, directories and newspapers. Students will be guided through their own projects, so please bring a topic. Course leader: Ronnie Scott BA MPhil PhD

"Glasgow University, Department of Adult and Continuing education, Course code GC142, cost £56.00, times are 10.00-12.00 Saturdays from 11 October 2008 (8 meetings) University Campus." The cost could be covered by an ILA. The course includes a card for Glasgow University Library, and a guided visit to Glasgow University Archive.
