Hope this hasn,t been done elsewhere on the site. but was passing the old Possil bus depot and ajoining building in Hawthorn street looking very sorry for themselves and thought about all the buildings I wish i had photographed over the years that are no longer there. I can think of a few I know within 10 mins from my house that won,t be with us for long.

Will need to see if there is any near me. I know one or two school that are due for demolition

There are also a few houses earmarked to come down

What`s the story with McGill, Bonnyholm and Leithland rd schools in Pollok then Alex, any demolition dates ?
I heard there may be a problem building private houses on the land McGill stands on as its part of Stirling Maxwell Forest Park ?
I noticed some newly built paths leading up to the old water tower off Barnbeth Rd too...Some sort of nature trail ?

Scary I was briefly involved a while ago in the situation at Bonnyholm. It was intended to get it demolished as soon as a developer had been appointed. I only recently heard that it still hasn't been demolished. I will make some enquiries about McGill and Leithland. I think though that the delay is the current credit situation.

Many of the former school sites where to be transferred to a new Property Company set up by the Council and the sites would have been cleared quicker. Unfortunately this has been shelved at the moment.

There are plans to link Rosshall Park to Crookston Castle by way of a path so that visitors can access both easier.

Cheers Alex, it`s just that McGill, Bonnyholm and Leithland have been lying empty for 2 years now, you can`t blame the credit crunch for that...more a budget thing me thinks

As an aside :- There has been to my knowledge 4 emergency call-outs to Leithland School. They could have demolished the whole school at half the price, its the system thats killing us here,. There is no money in the demolition fund, but there are millions of pounds being wasted in the Emergency fund

If that is Hawthorn Street then I think it is owned by the Council.

The old First Depot was demolished I think a couple of years ago when they closed it and sold off the land I think.

I'd expect it to be First unless they managed to sell it on to anyone else, which seems unlikely as the site would probably have been cleared if that were the case.

I've had a look at this building and I dont access will be possible. There appears to be a company using the building at the south-east corner. The gates are open during the day but the main building is button up as far as I could see.

It's possible, but what I saw in the yard was an untidy mess of vehicles. There was a green tow truck though, but too far away to make out clear what it was and what it was doing

Here is another one for you.
The old Possil and Parkhouse railway station which was part of the Dumbartonshire and Lararkshire railway it closed in 1964.
Its supposed to be similar to the one that stood at the botanic gardens.
The line was closed under Beeching and I remember as a boy we used to play on the disused line a bit further up at Colston
Lots of old bridges still in place but the line is now heavily overgrown. will walk it and take pics once its a bit warmer

Did you get a closer look on that railway station building as to what type of padlock it had? (Theres a method to my madness)

Took a few pics but none of the lock....will go over tomorrow and see what access points might be of use.. its only 2 mins from my house.... another one for you is the old hall in springburn.. photos to follow

Had a look at Springburn town hall.... access looks pretty impossible without the mortis key for the steal door. I believe the internal condition was jsut too dangerous although I do recall some work being done on it recently

I took these pics of Possilpark Depot in 2006.It was opened in 1901 and closed in 2000, 99 years of almost unbroken service.

Starting at the newer end on Hawthorn St built in 1951. This was also home to the GCT and later GGPTE car club.

I'll kill anyone who pinches this sign before I do.

The old bit. This was one of the first depots purpose built for electric trams as opposed to being modified from a horse tram depot.

A veiw through some of the busted windows show manky old bus seats pilled up.

The original door is where the First sign is, note the lintel still in place. The newer door was added when it was converted to a bus garage.

A peek through a gap in the door revealed this old Grampian Atlantean in storage (now scrapped). Quite a few preserved buses were stored here after closure, and an old Glasgow Subway car body.

The gate on Ashfield St. At least a couple of episodes of Still Game use this as a backdrop in some scenes ('Dial-A-Bus' and 'Recipe').

Have you asked First for that sign

It may be difficult getting it off without damaging it

It looks in poor condition. Maybe it will rust and just fall off

I don't think First own the building any more Alex they tend to shift their old buildings fairly quick.
I'm sure I can encourage the sign to fall off

Before a smarty pants points it out, yes that bus has Edinburgh on it, First Edinburgh was it's last operator.
It was built for Grampian Transport which after privatisation, buyouts, became GRT, and after more buyouts etc etc, became one of the founders of the dreaded First Group. Their old Atlanteans were transferred all over the place.

Spied this derelict building on Byres road and Torness street.. anyone know its history ?

IIRC It's Church Street school and that derelict bit was the swimming pool.

What a fabulous looking building .This is on the corner of Centre st and Cook st just south of the river in the city centre.Look at that entrance.... anyone know its history ?

I do believe it started as a telephone exchange and spent more recent years as a sweat shop of some kind. It's suffered a few fires etc

My mum used to have a singer like that but not with a motor.
It used to have a big square foot pedal that rocked back & forth to turn the machine over.
