Balrossie residential school

I had a look round this place the other week.
Balrossie residential school near Kilmacolm.
I'm struggling to find much information about it other that it was an orphanage for sailers sons, used during the war for something like AK?
Also was residential school for boys, and used by the Boys Brigade or the likes.
It would be good if anyone can find any more info on it, especially the enscription on the wall of the building..the sig has shed no light, its hard to make out at all.
There is a connection to Quarriers as far as I know, and also the Marquis of Lorne is said to have opend the school.

Minx, that inscription,I've seen that "signature" somewhere before.

I've seen it on a few buildings where I work though one has long since been demolished. I'll have a gander to confirm I'm right, but for now I reckon its James Coats, brother of Peter & Thomas Coats who had textile mills.
Cuban

It's now tighter than a badgers.

Minx, the monogram is that of James Coats, who with his brother Peter, formed J & P Coats.
The building housing the St.Mirren supporters club was once the gymnasium for the mill workers,so I've been told.
