£27million regeneration project for North Glasgow

Let’s go to work! (Evening Times)

PLANS have been unveiled for a £27million regeneration project for North Glasgow.

The Broomfield Road development will bring 198 homes to the 16-acre
site. The project is a partnership between Alexander Morton Homes, North
Glasgow Housing Association and City Building.

Councill leader Steven Purcell, who was joined at the project launch by 50
City Building apprentices, said: "This project will make a huge difference
to the lives of people in the area, not just through improvements to the
physical infrastructure, but also through the social legacy that the
associated jobs and apprenticeship opportunities will bring. It's a perfect
example of how partnerships between the public and private sectors can
lead to real benefits for ordinary people."

The site forms part of the Red Road Transformational Regeneration area
and will be developed in two phases.

A total of 122 homes, including 52 for rent, 50 for sale and 20 for low-cost
home ownership will be built in phase one.

They will be a mix of two and three-bedroom detached, terraced,
semi-detached homes and wheelchair-accessible housing. The mix for the
remaining 76 homes to be built in Phase Two has still to be determined.

City Building will construct the house structures using timber kits
manufactured at its Royal Strathclyde Blindcraft Industries (RSBi)
workshop less than a mile away.

North Glasgow Housing Association will allocate the 52 homes for rent and
20 for low-cost home ownership.

The 20 homes available to buy on a shared equity basis will by sold
through the Scottish Govern-ment's LIFT scheme, which offers eligible
buyers up to a 40% grant. With a 40% grant it is likely that properties will
start at £66,000 for two bedrooms and £76,000 for three bedrooms.

A total of 42 workmen from City Building and 20 apprentices will work on
the project.
