Sorry minx but I hate the Barras. It's a total embarrassment of a place now.
It was exciting when I was young and I would go down and buy some coins (I collected them) and some games for my Amstrad CPC, maybe even some candy floss at the stairs in the market inside but now it's just mingin'. Every time I pass it I think to myself why nothing has been done to drag the shithole into the 21st century.
Bill's Tool Store is handy though.

No that's cool LL ...some of it is...some of it is excellent..some of it has pride..some not- I'm sad to say.
I saw a lot going on the other day, including having an old alcoholic falling on me, some shifty characters, but also lots of decent people too.
Just from a photography point of view though, it was heaven to me. Also I wanted to capture it, get as much as I could, it will be gone eventually, and I went there a lot as a kid, some of the old atmosphere is still there.
It still has a feeling of community, even if it includes a lot of fly men ready to rip you off |

I know what you mean. I'm not saying I want it modernised with Baby Gap or a Starbucks but just try and get some life back into the place by getting rid of the rip off merchants. Make a place people want to come back to and not just pass through.
My Ma n Da were walking through The Barras one day when they hear a fight breaking out behind them. Turns out it was two Santas having a barney and rolling about punching lumps out each other all over their patch.
Couldn't write that stuff. _________________ My Real Name: Pete

Probably the same guy I bought them off nearly 20 years ago. I had a half penny from 187? Terrible I can't remember the exact year. Queen Victoria barely visible on it. I was always amazed that someone 100 years before had used that and now I had it in my hand.
Anyway, thanks for that pic. _________________ My Real Name: Pete

Too right! I tried to discretely capture the surviving architecture around the Barra's and got rumbled instantly by pensioners outside a boozer
framing the picture
Uh Oh..... I've been clocked = FAIL!!!
