On Page 2 you ask 'do you recognise this place'.
it looks like , Dumbarton Road, Partick, roughly opposite Comet |

Definately not there, the grey building in the pic is the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Partick branch is much darker, and the block you are thinking of was home to Lawrence of Partick.
I'm thinking southside, possibly Victoria Rd _________________ Gies a gonk ya dobber!!

I actually thought this was Alexandra Parade between Craigielea St and Meadowpark St
It's a teaser indeed _________________ MY FLICKR

Good replies folks and it's a mystery needing solving. I was going along the lines of AlanM's suggestion of the Southside perhaps Alison Street looking west but I'm not convinced that's right.
There's a row of tenements in the distance at what could be a junction if that helps.
One things for sure it's NOT Cathcart Road... or is it?
There's not many clues to the name of the shop sign as it's too obscured even at hi res

Yeah, having a look at the shadows definately looking west.
So that rules out Vicky Rd.
Could be Maryhill Rd
The numbers are getting into the 900's there as well (look at the driving school) so that'll rule out a lot of streets _________________ Gies a gonk ya dobber!!

Does anyone have a 1970's telephone book?
There won't be many RBS branches with a street number over 900. _________________ Gies a gonk ya dobber!!

The wee sign just in front of the '9' looks like a Rothmans logo.

You're not going to believe this.
I went to the Mitchell today and had a look at the yellow pages for both North and South of the city and came up with 2 possible locations.
Maryhill Rd at Eastpark
and
Cathcart Rd.
