I take it that it's one of these barges that now resides on the grass at Pinkston?:

| It's only by looking at those aerial photos you see the extent of the communal air raid shelters that were built in tenement back courts throughout the city. |

Well spotted Schiehallion aslo worth noting is the use of public spaces like this example in a small playpark in the Govanhill area.

Due east of that park, you'll see more 'public space' ones immediately north of the Victoria Primary School in Batson St. That never developed area used to be a small hill where the kids slid down on boards.
In 1964 Glasgow Corporation were given a government grant to remove the communal air raid shelters. The penny finally dropped at Westminster that these shelters in any future war would be of no use! Kaboom!
978 were removed in the winter of 1963 and more would go in 1964 if they were unsound or were in the way of a future development. Even with that number removed, some 1400 still existed.
Alec Douglas-Home's Tory government had given the limited grant to create 'winter employment' for unskilled manual workers in demolishing them during 1963-64. Most of the rest appear to have been demolished in 1968 |

Sorry GK, thought I'd answered this already.
There are no higher resolution images than those already posted. We haven't been
given copies to distribute.

Ah right, cheers James. I thought they were on a CD like the other lot.
Hang on, what does Fjord mean here ?
