Festival acts head underground (BBC)
Singers, dancers, comedians and acrobats will head underground next
month as part of Glasgow's second Subway Festival.
A packed two-day programme of events has been unveiled by Strathclyde
Partnership for Transport (SPT).
Passengers will be entertained by gospel choirs, showgirls and Elvis
impersonators.
The inaugural festival last year attracted more than 16,000 extra
passengers onto the subway.
This year's festival will be held on 23 and 24 May.
More than 300 performers will take part in events above and below
ground across 50 venues on the 113-year-old network.
Passengers will also be treated to an underground fairground, farmer's
market, fashion shoot and treasure hunt.
SPT chief executive Ron Culley said he hoped to build on the success of
last year's festival.
He said: "This year we have worked hard to bring passengers a bigger
and better festival crammed with quality entertainment in and around our
stations over the weekend.
"All our staff, including our cuddly mascot Boo the Bunny, will endeavour
to make 2009 an excellent fun-filled event for all. We are aiming to
smash last year's attendance."
