CBIT was first set up by a group of health professionals in 1991 to provide information regarding the effects of 'traumatic' injury on a child's developing brain. The organisation was originally known as the Children's Head Injury Trust (CHIT) and focussed on raising money to fund research, promoting information about children's head injury and supporting families.

Parents of children with a head injury were keen to become actively invovled with the Trust and the emphasis of our work changed. Supporting children and families, and providing accessible literature began to take precendence over seeking funding for research. It became clear that families needed support regardless of how their child's brain injury came about which eventually led to a re-evaluation of our objectives and a change of name in 2001.

The Child Brain Injury Trust now
We may have changed our name and evolved over time, but we remain clear in our commitment to support children and families affected by brain injuries that happen after birth (acquired brain injuries), giving every person the opportunity to achieve their potential. Click on this link to find out more about what CBIT does. CBIT currently has 5 offices across the UK. Our registered office is located in Oxfordshire, but we also have offices in Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

My daughter suffers from this condition and with the help of this organisation we found out all the information we needed and have somewhere to turn to.
